I’ve lived in Texas my entire life and just went to hike Enchanted Rock for the very first time. Then proceeded to kick myself the entire way home for not having made it a point to go sooner.
Enchanted Rock was well, enchanting. The views from atop the rock are unmatched, it’s just hill country for as far as the eyes can see. Plus, the hike up really isn’t too bad, it’s a little under a mile to the summit. I’m not the most skilled hiker, I have ok balance at best and a small fear of heights. So like I said, not the most skilled and I had zero issues hiking to the summit.
About an hour and a half drive west of Austin in historic Fredericksburg, TX. I suggest getting an early start at Enchanted Rock and then spending the later afternoon in the historic district of Fredericksburg.
Rock climb, hike to the summit, run or walk 11 miles of trails, picnic, camp, and enjoy local wildlife.
Yes. To spend the day hiking and using the trails it’s $7 per person, children 12 and under are free. I’d highly recommend purchasing passes ahead of time, especially if you’re planning on going on the weekend.
Have you ever been hiking at Enchanted Rock? Where are some of your favorite trails to hike in Texas?
