Did you even see Nice if you didn’t take in the 360 views of the city from atop the Musée d’art moderne et d’art Contemporain, also commonly referred to as the MAMAC?
No! The answer is definitely no.
I’ve been to my share of beautiful museums in my lifetime, but this one easily stands out from the rest because of the rooftop terrace. Make your way to the very top of the museum and enjoy views overlooking the entire city of Nice. Because of this unique feature, the MAMAC easily makes top 5 museums I’ve ever visited. See more in my video of what I’m talking about!
This is just one side of the rooftop area, you can easily walk the entire perimeter over bridge-like stairs and there’s even foliage up there! Bring a camera (and a friend) because the photo opportunities are unmatched.
The MAMAC has beautiful, artfully-functional pieces throughout too, like this impressive main staircase (above), or the exit stairway (pictured below). From the terrace on the roof you can see more proof of this. Visible only from the outside, the museum has each interior grand window area filled with something different on each of the four sides. It’s kind of hard to explain but you can sort of see what I mean in the video. Theres one side filled with metal chair frames all the way to the fourth floor ceiling. It’s wild!
Niki de Saint Phalle, a powerhouse female artist, is one of only a couple of artist’s on permanent display. She has a number of pieces displayed at the MAMAC, the second most important collection of her works in Europe actually.
I hope you guys are enjoying these virtual museum visits!
