This past weekend I celebrated my 30th birthday which you probably know if you follow me on Instagram, it was hard to miss. I celebrated starting last Monday so it was a full week long event. Tons of hangs with friends, so many sweet treats and lots of cocktails made this 7 day celebration one to remember.
One thing that crossed my mind during the festivities happened during a pregame at my house, a mature revelation if you will. Which I know, what mature revelation could a person possibly have while “pregaming” at ones house? Well, I’m about to tell you so calm down gah!
So in years passed I’ve always pregamed with no rhyme or reason-or well, I guess the reason was to get a little buzz before heading out for a night on the town. So this meant majority shots and beers and in my very early twenties beer bongs (don’t judge me); easy, quick, no thought drinks. Insert revelation…Well, I’m technically an adult now so if I invite people over to “pregame” I should have cocktails to offer. I almost have a full bar currently, at 25 I could have never said that. I bought a bottle, we finished a bottle-that was just how I was living. Was. But now that I have a variety of spirits, mixers and even stuff like bitters and appropriate glassware I should put them to use. Long gone are the days of even owning a beer bong. Time for me to elevate my preparty vibes!
Mojito’s aren’t my classic go-to when it comes to everyday cocktails but when I decided to partner with Malibu to showcase a little #SPIRITOFSUMMER it was the first thing that came to mind. Mojito’s are the quintessential Summer cocktail and it doesn’t hurt that this drink makes me think of Miami, my all time favorite place. Mojito’s are refreshing, light and easy to drink; I wanted to give the classic Mojito a little spin (and color) by adding blackberries. Since I wanted to use Malibu’s classic coconut flavored rum I thought that a little additional bitterness from the blackberries would help to balance the sweetness. I decided to strain my mixture because I don’t prefer food floating in my drink but you could always prepare it in your glass and snack on the berries as you sip or definitely keep them in if you make it in a large batch for visual points.
A skinny, fruity version of the classic Mojito
Add mint and blackberries to shaker, muddle then add ice.
Next pour Malibu and lime juice over the ice. Add Stevia
Shake vigorously then pour into glass over ice and top with club soda
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Sylvia
