Statement sleeves are making their comeback from the 80’s this SS18 in every runway show from Off-White to Saint Laurent and I’m not mad about that one bit. Exaggerated sleeves, shoulder pads, extreme structure-ah, I’m so ready to rock the hell out of this trend.
I’ve already picked up a couple tops with statement sleeves including this Topshop style that was a perfect way to transition into this trend because while the sleeves are enlarged and bold, they’re also still very feminine. The soft plaid pattern on the steely grey color makes this a prime purchase for Spring as it pairs well with white and other pastel colors. Because the sleeves are so voluminous I like to style these tops with fitted bottoms to contrast. I wore cropped, white, skinny jeans but you could also pair this with a slim fit pant or a pencil skirt. I’d also love to style this with a little overall dress, the options are endless. This design style does take a little getting used to, at least in two of the tops I’ve gotten, the arms can be a little hard to move. Your range of motion is slightly altered which can be frustrating. But hey, we act like heels aren’t that uncomfortable. I just wouldn’t wear this top for a night of wild dancing, not that there are many of those anymore anyway. Or ever.
Here are some of my favorite tops with statement making sleeves:
Be sure you’re following my Pinterest because I’m constantly saving new pieces I love including all of those tops!
